A free Windows program to remind you of upcoming events and todos

In UK's Kalender, there are several views for your dates that are organized similar to a calendar sheet. Dates and appointments can be entered into the calendar via an input form. You can enter a forewarn time, so as long as UK's Kalender is running in the background you'll be reminded of your dates as soon as the forewarn time is reached.

Independent from the calendar function there is also a todo list where you can enter tasks with a deadline and a forewarn time. If the forewarn time is reached, UK's Kalender will inform you of the due tasks with symbols and colors.

Features:

• Automatic saving
Any changes to the database are automatically and immediately saved to disk. On every program start, a backup copy of your data file is created.

• Unlimited Undo and Redo
Most changes can be undone and also repeated.

• Minimize to the system tray
UK's Kalender minimizes into the system tray (the area next to the system clock).

• Network support
UK's Kalender supports a shared event file, where every user can enter events that'll show up in each other user's calendar. For using the network functions it is neither required to install special server software nor to keep the computer with the shared event file permanently running. UK's Kalender will synchronize the local event file as soon as the shared event file is accessible.

• Repeating events
There are lots of possibilities for entering repeating events, e.g. hourly, every three days, monthly, every first Tuesday of the month or even every Friday the 13th.

• Forewarn time and snooze function
Each event can be assigned a user defined forewarn time in the range from one minute to several weeks. In the reminder dialog you can enter a time after that you'll be reminded again. Alternatively you can choose to be reminded again a certain time before the event.

• Multi day events
Events can have a duration from one minute to several days (or no duration at all, but just a start date).

• Event categories and templates
Events can be organized into categories, e.g. "Doctor", "Meeting", "Party" and so on. Each category is assigned a template of settings, including repetition rate and forewarn time.

• Acoustic reminders
You can choose to be reminded of an event with a WAV file of your choice.

• Event driven program execution and document opening
Documents or programs can be attached to an event. This is very handy for e.g. regular backup purposes.

• Marking and hiding events
Special events may be either color marked or hidden.

• Four event views
Events can be displayed in week-, fortnight-, month- or year-view.

• Tooltips for events and todos
If you stop the mouse over a calendar date or a todo, extended info is shown for the events and todos.

• Alarms can be deactivated
Alarms may be deactivated all at once, so your game, film etc. won't be interrupted.

• Highly configurable display for events and todos
All views can easily be configured to present the information just the way you want.

• Configurable tray icon
The tray icon can be configured to show the current day of the month, the weekday or even the seconds.

• Search and filter functions
You can search for and filter out your events using keywords, categories, event states or date ranges. The filter function directly affects all output functions, so you can easily create e. g. a calendar only containing birthdays.

• Clipboard support
Events and todos can be copied to the clipboard and may be pasted back to any word processor or UK's Kalender itself.

• Export to HTML- and CSV-format
Events and todos can be exported to HTML-format in different views. With this you can easily print your dates and todos. Export to CSV-format allows the transfer of your data to a spreadsheet program. All activated filter options are applied to the output.

• Holidays
Holidays for one or more countries can be displayed right in the calendar. Various holiday modules are available. If your country is missing, you can simply define a holiday module yourself.

Supported languages:

German, Dutch, French, Croatian, Hungarian, Polish, Italian, Russian, Chinese, Spanish, Turkish, Czech, Swedish and English. Holiday modules for Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Belgium (French / Dutch), France, Italy, Greece, United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia, Poland, Israel, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Brazil, Columbia, Turkey, Portugal and Trinidad and Tobago

Download Notes:

• The package "Holidays.zip" contains all currently available holiday modules. Those are all modules mentioned above and additional modules that were added between updates. The list of additional modules will grow as users will send me their work.

• There is also a zipped portable version without installer.
After unpacking, this version can be run from anywhere (USB-stick etc.) without any special requirements. It is fully self-contained and does not use the registry of the host computer (at least as long as you leave this option unchecked).

• Important notice for the no-install version!
If you plan to use the portable version as a permanently installed program, you'll need to change the configuration of the program, otherwise it might fail to load the event file on startup. After extracting the zip package, move the event file "dates.dat" from the calendar's "events" folder to a directory you have full write access to (e.g. "My Documents"). Then start UK's Kalender. You'll be prompted, that the calendar cannot open the event file. Simply ignore it. Under "ExtrasOptions..." on the "Program Start" tab, change the setting under "Startup file" to point to the previously moved event file. After changing the options, restart the calendar. There shouldn't be any error messages on startup anymore. The program can be used now just like the setup version. By the way: You can avoid this hassle by downloading the setup version.

• Since version 2.1.0 it is possible to create holiday modules yourself.
The required program "HolidayGenerator" can be downloaded here. This program doesn't require a setup and can be directly executed. It doesn't touch your system in any way and can easily be deleted if it is not required anymore. Admittedly, this program is not very intuitive and probably too complex for "normal users". On the other hand I have to say, some countries' holidays are not easily to put into rules. With the program comes a brief manual in English language. I can't give support for this program, therefore just a hint: With this program you can also open existing holiday modules in "*.hol" format and take a look how some problems can be solved. If you think you have created a really good holiday module, you can send it to me and I'll include it in the setup package.

• If you enjoy experimenting, there is a new toy available for download, KalenderFeed. With this program you can feed text based event files into your existing Kalender network. These text based event files are the same as they are created by UK's Kalenders backup function. This file format can also easily be created with your own programs. So if you'd like to feed the latest football scores into you Kalender network and if you have some programming skills, you may want to take a look at KalenderFeed. The archive in the download section below contains some hints for the usage and a deion of the file format of text based event files. Please be aware that I cannot give support for the usage of KalenderFeed. I highly recommend to try the usage on a test system first before using it in your working environment.

• Ultra important hint for network users migrating from a version less than 2.2.0 to a version greater or equal 2.2.0!
From version 2.2.0 on, the synchronization of shared categories is supported. Unfortunately this leads to the paradoxical situation, that with the first start of the calendar all categories with enabled "Shared" flag will be deleted, as the shared event file does not hold any categories, yet. The easiest workaround is to replace the shared event file with a file of the same name but with no content, that means 0 bytes size. While replacing the event file, all instances of the calendar must be completely closed. After replacing the shared event file, you can start the calendar that has the shared categories you want to distribute to other clients. The calendar detects the 0 byte file and will start a fail safe routine that'll build up a new shared event file now including the shared categories. From then on, the calendar will behave as usual.

• Please take also care to update all installations of UK's Kalender simultaneously to the new version!

• Please make backup copies of your current event file before installing the new version! You should also take a look at the manual first, especially the installation instructions, available here!

Note:

This file has two hits on VirusTotal. We have confirmed these to be false positives. The file is safe.
