Trellix Stinger (formerly McAfee Stinger) is a standalone anti-virus scanner to detect and remove specific viruses. It is not a substitute for full featured anti-virus protection, but rather a tool to assist administrators and users when dealing with an infected system.
The program utilizes McAfee scan engine technology, including process scanning, digitally signed DAT files, and scan performance optimizations.
Stinger detects more than 3000 viruses, Trojans and variants as well as malware that masquerades as a legitimate security application (Fake Alerts).
The Trellix Stingerr interface is plain and straightforward, simply select the drive or folders to scan and click a button. You can choose an action to perform if a virus is detected (delete, prompt, quarantine or rename) and also configure which type of files to scan.
Trellix Stinger does not offer automatic updates, the program is not designed as long-term protection but for occasional use.

This seems to update practically every day, taking up precious screen and mental turf. Why can't it update itself as so many other utilities do? Or just prompt the user that an update is available? This almost spoils the Snapfiles experience.

Stinger may provide help, getting rid of specific malware. And the specific malware threats are listed. But beware. Setting the "GTI" sensitivity to high or very high will lead to a lot of false positives (malware you won't see on the threat list). If you set the sensitivity to high or very high, MAKE SURE stinger is set to "report" (not "remove" or "repair" . Being a novice, I reloaded my OS on the first false positive. After a series of false positives, I decided to do a little research on how the program works and no longer use highvery high sensitivity scans.

Be aware that that tool scans only for a limited number of viruses and variants but it do it well. Fast but need a lot of system resources. No sufficient upgrades, so for the well-know viruses this is ok but for the rest ...

I was very skeptical about these different device's to use in my pc. but hay this tool found something I was not expecting. I had a nasty Virus called a Bagel in my pc and this tool found it , took it out and repaired the damage that was done. I am now up and running again and it's all due to this Macafee Avert Stinger. it truly is a great Item to have and Download. Tech Support couldnt even tell me I had a virus it took this tool to do it. MacAfee is the Best. Thank You so much..
