Guy"s out here with a new Bronco that has only 3,000 miles on it, and Ford just killed the engine while he"
He"s standing on the side of the road, trucks and cars whipping past, saying he could get killed and that Ford has no idea how rough it is out here. He even wonders out loud if this is basically a scam.
Hard questions we should all be asking:
• How is it legal (or safe) for a company to remotely disable a vehicle while it"s moving on a public highway?
• What happens if this happens to someone with kids in the car, or in the middle of nowhere, or during a medical emergency?
• If you finance a car, do you really own it… or are you just renting permission to drive until they decide otherwise?
• How many other vehicles already have this kill-switch capability built in that most of us don"t even know about?
• And if they can shut it off for a missed payment, what else can they control or track without your knowledge?
This isn"t just one guy"s bad day. This is a preview of what “smart” cars can do to all of us.
